Ummm, where did she go? Switching......

What does it mean to switch? This is what occurs when an alternate personality comes forth. This usually occurs when the person with DID is triggered. Here are some signs to alert you when switching is about to take place or has already taken place:

  • A severe headache (migraine type)
  • Intense pressure inside of the head
  • Pressure behind the eyes
  • Muscles become stiff or tension in the neck and shoulders
  • Feeling dizzy or light headed or spaced out
  • Eyes look glassy
  • Vision becomes blurry or unclear
  • Ringing or roaring sound in the ears
  • Sensitivity to light, touches, smells or sounds
  • Feeling cold or hot
  • Feeling like a different person physically or emotionally
  • Feeling younger or older
  • Moods shift quickly (Happy then sad, Angry then excited)
  • Ideas, thoughts and feelings change but the situation around you stays the same
  • Things do not appear real (everything looks fake or far away)
  • You feel as if you are outside the body or above or below it
  • Your gestures and mannerisms become obviously different
  • Thoughts become confused and you cannot think clearly
  • Your thoughts get louder
  • Hearing arguments or conflict in your head
  • Stuttering over words
  • Eyes rolling upward or downward
  • Twitching
  • Breathing heavily or gasping
  • Voice changes
  • Feeling extremely fatigued all of a sudden
  • Staring off
  • Intense anxiety
  • Seeing things that are not really there
  • Attitude changes suddenly
  • There are many more signs as each person with DID is different and switches in their own unique way. These are the most common signs.

    1. All good signs. As an observer, I usually see changes in facial expression and/or gestures, vocal pitch and/or accent as well as vocabulary. Sometimes eye color.

    2. It sounds like these are co-conciseness signs? Are they?

    3. Ann, these could be signs if you're co-conscious or unaware of anyone inside.
